Going by Robert's suggestion, we should choose the english name as the title. Is that possible? Who is for the English name? (Ron)

Anna - partly for: I think that Robert is right, but we should consider that not every German is fluent in English - at least may be not fluent enough to feel spontaneously attracted by name and idea of the association. Having only an English name could be off-putting for some who could be pontential sponsors/supporters. So is there a possiblity to use both names? The German version first and below or in brackets the English version? Or do you think that would be too long?

would it be clever to have a name that is so region-specific? If longterm goal is to act all over Sub -Saharan Africa (in favor!) than a name like Dorfschreiber e.V. would allow a wider regional scope for our activities...(Anna)

After some more thought, the name of a former Apartheid Homeland - '''Transkei''' - is not a very good choice at all. Regional alternatives: (these are all much more specific than Transkei)Mbhashe, King Sabata Dalindyebo, (Or less specific) Former Homelands, as in "friends of the former homelands". (Ron)

Anna: Ron, thanks for mentioning that - I had a strange feeling about the name Transkei but I was not sure if my association with Apartheid was reasonable. Honestly I would skip this one and stick to the two versions that underline the programmatic goals more than the regional aspect

Anna: I like this one as well, the English version is very catchy and plausible, easy to keep in mind. And I like that the word "Bewusstseinssteigerung" is not too central. It says perfectly what we want to achieve, therefore it should be included here. But I feel that in German it has a connotation that reminds of good, naive human beings who want peace for the world without any idea of what they are talking about. As I met a few guys who were terribly harm- and clueless but wanted to save the world with an organization that had a very similar name (they failed dramatically) I might be kind of hypersensitive here :-). I think the combination of "Völkerverständigung" and "Bewusstseinssteigerung" works perfectly well. As mentioned before I would vote for the combination of the English and German name as it is written here. Sorry for posting that much text, too tired to keep myself short...:-(

Infrastructure is expensive (solar panels, internet via mobile GPRS/ satellite VSAT, hardware, training, etc.). You can tackle the world if you have 100,000,000,000$. We don't, so we are going to start with the Transkei, then South Africa, then Africa and then the world. That is why "Friends of the Transkei" is a candidate for a name.

3.1.1 1. Non-sustainable, donation driven schools programme

• Cultural exchange on a web-based basis: Aufbau einer weltweiten Gemeinschaft zum webbasierten Austausch von Wissen, Erfahrungen, Lebensumständen in Form von Texten, Bilder, Tönen, Filmen
• Initiierung von Schulprojekten in Deutschland: Unmittelbarer web-basierter Austausch zwischen deutschen und afrikanischen Schülern bilden die Grundlage für ein auf Wissen, Partnerschaft und Problembewusstsein basierendes Handeln im Sinne der Völkerverständigung und Völkergemeinschaft. (Vorschlag von Anna, habe die Aussage im Grunde unverändert gelassen, fand aber die Formulierung noch etwas sperrig und wollte den Gedanken der Völkerverständigung mehr in den Satz einbinden)
• Cultural exchange on a personal basis: persons or groups will travel to other cultures - much later, when the means and the reason for the travel is legitimised and meaningful.

The society is governed by German rules and regulations for non-profit organisations.

Ergänzend zum Punkt Gemeinnützigkeit:

Der Verein muss als 'besonders förderungswürdig' eingestuft werden, damit er selbst Spendenquittungen ausstellen darf. Das Ganze ist natürlich auch steuerlich relevant.

3.5 Society Charter

• We as a society believe in the worth of every single person on the planet.
• We believe that personal access to information is crucial to the well-being of the entire planet.
• Such personal informational access creates a global village.

• Unfortunately there are still too many disenfranchised people.

• It is our view that there are basic fronts:
• Nutrition
• Hygiene and Health
• Societal factors: employment, cultural opportunity etc.

• Environment!
• Help spread important information about the environment in an environmentally friendly way
• They should all be addressed simultaneously, because they are interdependant.
• We do our bit on one of the fronts and someone alse does their bit on another.
• We must work together and synergise though!

http://www.bismarckschule-elmshorn.de Bismarckschule Elmshorn (ich habe zu einem wirklich großartigen Lehrer meines Gymnasiums noch recht guten Kontakt. Die Schule ist/war zu meiner Zeit solchen Projekten gegenüber immer recht aufgeschlossen und gerade dieser Lehrer ist interessiert und hat Spaß an unkonventionellen Dingen und gesellschaftspolitischen Projekten. Ich habe ihm gerade zusammen mit einer Mitschülerin ein Projekt zur Studienberatung für Schüler von Ehemaligen vorgeschlagen - ich könnte ihn jederzeit mit einer neuen Idee bombardieren :-).Ist noch ein bißchen früh, aber ich wollte das mal in den Raum werfen - es wäre sicher eine gute Gelegenheit, über ihn Pilotprojekte laufen zu lassen. Die schule ist allerdings nicht in Berlin.9
