Web 2.0 Products

awareNet

The main focus of awareNet is to link pupils at regional and global level to promote inter-cultural awareness, literacy, independence, and to build self-esteem. The service is operational and expanding. See: awareNet main Internet site.  Coming soon, awareNet for disadvantaged Grahamstown schools (local peer instance).

This project was initially developed in the context of the Solar School Computer Lab project.

eCommerce platform

This is a virtual mall concept with individual stores for manufacturers, crafters, tradesmen and other sellers. A network  of sellers in a rural region will be created to increase selling power. This project is currently in development by University of Fort Hare and being tested at Dwesa. It is based on open source software, easily extensible, and will be applied and enhanced in connection with one of our following projects.

Service extensions

The eCommerce platform will be used in a kiosk environment to create a new form of employment and information service. We target women as kiosk owners who are going to help the tradesmen to advertise their offer in the web. They will be trained and supported. The platform will be extended to increase usefulness, e.g. government or other services, e.g. insurance, electricity etc.
